The Mountain - I Sized It Up

Today I counted all the books that I own that I still have to read. Not ebook ones, I'm way to scared to count those, but just the books I have on my bookshelves. Guys, I was scared. I was afraid The Mountain would be like this:

I'm proud to say, it was more like this:

My TBR Mountain is more like a TBR Hill. You still don't want to climb it, but it doesn't scare you as much as its snow-topped big brother. As it turns out, I have 117 unread books. That's right, I passed the one-hundred mark. But I was fearing that I sneakily passed the two hundred too when I was looking the other way. I am so, so glad that it's just 117. That means that if I would stop blogging entirely, and I would continue reading as much as I do now, I would read through all of my books in just one year. That really doesn't feel like an endless supply, as I thought it would be.

Don't get me wrong, it's way too much still.

But I'm not beyond saviour, and that's something I'm proud of. I'm not buried by unread books just yet. So right here, right now, I declare a challenge with myself. I am going to reduce the size of my pile this year. At the end of this year in December, I will count all of my TBR books again. And it will not be 117 or more. Let's make a goal.

At the end of this year, I will have reduced my TBR Hill to 80 books.

Because, let's be honest, I will still be buying new books. I'll still get books for review. But I'll try to keep up with my reading, and won't go on a book buying spree when I don't even have time to read. I'll add a "Size of the Hill" part to my Monthly Updates from now on, so you guys can all follow my progress. Wish me luck!

I would love to know how your TBR Mountains are doing. When was the last time you dared to count? Feel free to leave a comment and share your experiences (:

Bout of Books 3.0 Readathon: Picture Challenge

The Bout of Books readathon is over halfway! Today's co-host is Jacinda over at The Reading Housewives of Indiana. Her challenge is to share a picture of our current read, our snack and our drink! I'm glad that it's an easy one, I've been pretty busy these past two days. There's also a Twitter chat going on right now, if you're interested!

I wish I had something more exciting to show you than my Kindle and a glass of water, but that's pretty much all I'm living on right now. We just went to the Burger King, so I'm not really in the mood for a snack, hehe.

My read is Touch of Power by Maria V Snyder. It's really good, and I hope to finish it later today!

Read Your Own Books Marathon: Update

Finally got the time to start the marathon in earnest. Still had to go to the university on Friday, making it quite impossible to read yesterday. However, I was able to finish my first book for the marathon this morning! I read Blood Beast by Darren Shan. That brings my stats to this:

    • Books read: 1
    • Total pages read: 269
    • Goal books read: 2
    • Goal total pages read: 750
    • Pages to go till goal: 431
I'm now starting in the second book of the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning, Bloodfever. I hope I can finish it today, so I'll surpass my goal!

    *****

Update No. 2! I have finished Bloodfever. It was pretty awesome. I don't know if I liked it better than the first, but it definitely was a 4.5 star read. Of course it ends on a massive cliffhanger, so I'm glad I have the next part of the series Faefever close by! I think I will start reading it tonight, but I don't think I will be able to finish it, as I have to work on a boring Engineering project tomorrow. I guess I'll just try to squeeze in as much reading as I can! My updated stats:

    • Books read: 2
    • Total pages read: 606
    • Goal books read: 2
    • Goal total pages read: 750
    • Pages to go till goal: 144

    Follow Friday #1

This weeks Feature: Emily @ What Book is That?
Weekly Question: What are you currently reading?

I don't have that much time to read lately, so I'm still working on The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice (which is way, way better than Interview I can tell you) and The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray (bit in a drag there now.. It misses the speed Rebel Angels had) and a few days ago I decided to pick up Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen, for my monthly portion of classics.

     Happy Following!
