Teaser Tuesday #28: Everneath

I took in a breath and leaned my head back against the chair. That niggling wish - the silent prayer that I could someday reclaim my life - was alive inside me even though I knew it was impossible.

I was very excited when I got accepted for this ARC, and it's living up to it. An interesting mix of contemporary and mythology and romance. The cover is absolutely stunning.

Feel free to leave your teaser below, and don't forget to enter my 200 Followers Giveaway!

Teaser Tuesday #22: Sisters Red

“I feign obliviousness to the sound of his dull footsteps in the darkness behind me and tug my crimson cloak tighter around my shoulders. I give a fake shiver as a breeze whips trough  my glossy hair. That's right... come along, now. Think about how badly you want to devour me. Think of how good my heart will taste."

Taken from the first chapter of Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce. In this book the werewolves aren't cute and fluffy, but relentless killers. And teenage sisters Scarlett and Rosie have made it their task to protect the innocent humans from these monsters.

Leave your teaser below! (:

Teaser Tuesday #20: Stray

The moment the door opened I knew an ass-kicking was inevitable . Whether I'd be giving it or receiving it was still a bit of mystery.

First sentence of Stray by Rachel Vincent, the first book in the Shifters series, about Faythe, who is not your common were, but a werecat! The book has a lot of recommendations from great writers like Kim Harrison and Kelley Armstrong. Looking pretty good so far!

Feel free to leave your teaser below (:

Teaser Tuesday #16: Neverwhere

There are four simple ways for the observant to tell Mr. Croup and Mr. Vandemar apart: first, Mr. Vandemar is two and a half heads taller than Mr. Croup; second, Mr. Croup has eyes of a faded china blue, while Mr. Vandemar's eyes are brown; third, while Mr. Vandemar fashioned the rings he wears on his right hand out of the skulls of four ravens, Mr. Croup has no obvious jewelery; fourth, Mr. Croup likes words, while Mr. Vandemar is always hungry. Also, they look nothing at all alike.

Taken from the first chapter of the author's preferred text version of Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. First book I've read from this author, I'm enjoying his writing quite a lot.

Teaser Tuesday #15: Invasion

In the front of the room, standing on a small stage, was a monster at least seven feet tall.
"Is that a... I mean..."
"Technically he's a Tharik from the planet Nemus," Romero said, "but yeah. It's Bigfoot."

Taken from the second chapter of the ARC of Invasion by J.S. Lewis. Not sure what I think about this book yet, it's a bit hard to get into. Little quotes like this sound promising though (:

Teaser Tuesday #13: Clockwork Angel
"London, April 1878.

The demon exploded into a shower of ichor and guts. William Herondale jerked back the dagger he was holding, but it was too late. The viscous acid of the demon's blood had already begun to eat away at the shining blade. He swore and tossed the weapon aside; it landed in a filthy puddle and commenced smoldering like a doused match."

More demon goodness! Taken from the prologue. This book sounds very promising (:

Teaser Tuesday #12: Slawter

"And then he weeps, sobbing like a child. And I hold him, talking softly as the moon descends, telling him it's OK, he's home, he's safe - he's no longer in the universe of demons."

Part three of Darren Shan's Demonata series. They target a teen audience, but this is definitely not for the easily scared teen. There is enough gore and intestines to make a Saw movie.

I really like the covers of these series.

Teaser Tuesday #11: Assassin's Apprentice

"I wonder if I can write this history, or if on every page there will be some sneaking show of a bitterness I thought long dead. I think myself cured of all spite, but when I touch pen to paper, the hurt of a boy bleeds out with the sea-spawned ink, until I suspect each carefully formed black letter scabs over some ancient scarlet wound."

This book has been on my shelves for quite a while now, so I finally decided to pick it up, and now I'm asking myself why I didn't earlier. Hobb has gotten me hooked with her beautiful writing style. I can't wait to finish it.

Teaser Tuesday #10: A Treasure Worth Seeking

"What if no one were at home? Erin hadn't thought of that possibility. Indeed, she had thought of nothing since she had deplaned from the flight from Houston except finding this house. Her thoughts wile navigating the picturesque streets of San Francisco had been single-minded and purposeful. Today was the culmination of a three-year search."

Teaser taken from the second page of this book. I won this in the Firstreads programme from Goodreads. Review will be up soon!

Teaser Tuesday #9: Torment

"Only one thing could warm him today, and she was out of reach. He missed the way the crown of her head made the perfect resting spot for his lips. He imagined filling the circle of his arms with her body, leaning down to kiss her neck. But it was a good thing Luce couldn't be here now. What she would see would horrify her."

From the second page of Torment. I can't keep from staring at that fabulous cover! Hopefully the story is as good as the outside is (:

Teaser Tuesday #8: The Killing Dance

"The most beautiful corpse I'd ever seen was sitting behind my desk."

The great first sentence of the fifth book in the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton. I'm quite curious what I think of it, the first few books in the series I really enjoyed, but the rest of the series is rather controversial. Lets see how it goes (:

Teaser Tuesday #6: Insomnia

"No one - least of all Dr Lichfield - came right out and told Ralph Roberts that his wife was going to die, but there came a time when Ralph understood without needing to be told."

"Those four months were like being dragged drunk through some malign carnival where the people on the rides were really screaming, the people lost in the mirror maze were really lost, and the denizens of Freak Alley looked at you with false smiles on their lips and terror in their eyes."

Both teasers from the first page of the book (so no spoilers). I do hope this book isn't as scary as It (also by Stephen King) was, or I won't be able to sleep at night any more!

Teaser Tuesday #5: Vampire Diaries: The Awakening

"Dear Diary,
Something awful is going to happen today.
I don't know why I wrote that. It's crazy. There's no reason for me to be upset and every reason for me to be happy but...

But here I am at 5:30 in the morning, awake and scared. I keep telling myself it's just that I'm all messed up from the time difference between France and here. But that doesn't explain why I feel so scared. So lost."

Teaser Tuesday #4: Rampant

"Unicorns are man-eating monsters.
They don't have wings, they aren't lavender or sparkly, and you could never catch one to ride without its goring you through the sternum.

And even if it somehow managed to miss you major arteries - and it never misses - you'd still die from the poison in it's horn.
But don't worry. My great-great-great-great-great-aunt Clothilde killed the last one a hundred and fifty years ago."

     Teaser Tuesday #3: Vampire Protector

"Maybe it would be all right. As long as he looked and didn’t bite."

"When she shot a quick glance in his direction, his brows were drawn down into a frown as if his thoughts were not entirely pleasant, either. Despite his grim appearance, the attraction she felt toward him stirred, sending a warm buzz through her."

Teaser Tuesday #1:The Sweet Far Thing

"The Tree of All Souls lives. That was what the mysterious lady wrote upon the slate. But no one has ever mentioned it to me before. I realise, once again, that there is very little I know about this strange world I am to help to govern."

"The morning brings a foyer filled with cases and trunks, girls going home for Easter week. They stand hugging goodbye as if they shall see each other never again rather than Friday next."

Teaser Tuesday #1: The Vampire Lestat

"I was an extraordinary fiend! If I'd been sitting on the steps of hell with my elbows on my knees and the devil had said, "Lestat, come, choose the form of fiend you wish to be to roam the earth," how could I have chosen a better fiend than what I was?"
"We were on our knees in the snow together, and it was a wallop, the life going into me with the blood. I couldn't move for a long moment. Hmmm, broke the rules already, I thought. Am I supposed to die now?"
